Global Food Poisoning Statistics

An estimated 600 million – almost 1 in 10 people in the world – fall ill after eating contaminated food and 420 000 die every year.

Throughout history, there have been many outbreaks of food poisoning, many of which have had devastating consequences.

Sometimes caused by accident, negligence or even on purpose, food poisoning widens the trust of those consuming a product and the producer/ Enforcement agency and food poisoning has the ability to cause serious illness and death.

All food organisations and food handlers must practice responsible and careful food safety so as to lower the risk of causing illness or injury. If adequate level of food safety is not maintained, it could adversely affect public health and well-being.
