Recall of Irish pork over contamination in 2008

All Irish pork products have been recalled on the 5 December 2008 because of fears that animal feed has been contaminated with harmful toxins.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland identified that pig meat on a number of farms was found to have had between 80 and 200 times more dioxins than the recognised safety limit.

The recall affected all products produced since September 1st 2008 and the public were advised to destroy all pork bought since that date. It was identified that poisoning had occurred as the oil used to make a particular brand of animal feed was contaminated with dioxins far exceeding the limit.
