Food Contamination or Food Hazard

Food Contamination or Food Hazard

Food contamination refers to the presence of harmful chemicals in food and microorganisms which can cause consumer illness.

In other words, food contamination/hazard is any biological, chemical or physical agent in food or condition of food with the potential to cause an adverse health effect.

Food is contaminated if it contains something harmful, unintended or objectionable. Contamination may occur in a number of ways and can cause illness, injury or make the food unfit for human consumption. Hence care must be ensured in all aspects of food production.

Contamination can happen anywhere during the growth, production, processing, manufacture, storage, preparation and cooking of food.
