The Health Service Executive (HSE)
The Health Service Executive (HSE) is responsible for the provision of health and personal social services for everyone living in Ireland. The Executive was established by the Health Act, 2004 and came into official operation on 1st January 2005.
The HSE provides health and social services to everyone living in Ireland. Its services are delivered in hospitals, health facilities and in communities across the country and cover areas such as addiction services, disability services, along with the National Ambulance Service, environmental health, public health, and sexual health services.
The wide range of care services provided in the community are available through the 32 Local Health Offices nationwide - the first port of call for community care in Ireland.
