How to Prevent Food Contamination with Physical Hazards

Some of the ways to prevent food contamination with physical hazards:

  • Dispose of packaging as soon as it is removed from the food.
  • Always keep food covered when it is out in the open.
  • Dress appropriately for food handling.
  • Make sure hair is tied back and/or covered.
  • Any wound or sore on hands or fingers must be covered with an appropriate dressing.

Most Vulnerable group for physical contamination

About 80% of foreign body ingestions occur in the paediatric age group, or children below the age of three. It is estimated through a variety of reports and case studies that anywhere from 1% to 5% of foreign bodies ingested will result in some injury.
