Physical Hazards

Physical hazards are foreign objects in food.

Food workers must be vigilant in food preparation areas to ensure that physical contamination of food does not occur.

Examples of physical hazards

  • Jewellery, Nails and Plaster
  • Rodent Droppings
  • Nuts and bolts
  • Stones or stalks of fruit
  • Insects
  • Fragments of glass and China

Responsibility lies on the food worker to avoid stud, stone jewellery, to keep nails short, use hair net or hats, not to expose food to broken glass, China, nuts , bolts etc.. Any repair to machinery or equipment to be done ideally when food preparation and service not on.
