Delivery vehicle and delivery personnel
The delivery vehicle must be suitable for the transport of food, e.g., all vehicles must be weatherproof and clean. Vehicles must be refrigerated if used for transporting perishable foods.
Effective segregation of goods must be in place.
Delivery personnel is behaving in hygienic manner and PPE is in place where applicable.
Air temperature of delivery vehicles:
- For chilled foods 0°C to +5°C.
- For frozen food –18°C
For operators that are in the business of food delivery to other customers or transport food within the business, the food must be suitably stored and where necessary maintained at required temperatures.
Vehicles, containers and other means of transport of foodstuffs such as trolleys, insulated containers, push carts, etc. must be:
- Clean
- In good condition
- Suitable for the intended use
- Easy to clean and sanitise
- Pest proof
Segregation
- All food must be kept covered during distribution to reduce the risk of contamination
- Cooked and/or ready-to-eat foods must be adequately segregated from other foods during distribution or delivery. Where foods of different types and non-foods are transported in the same containers there must be:
- Effective separation of the products.
- No risk of contamination of the foods.
Vehicles Used for the Transport
- All vehicles used for the transportation of food must be inspected before loading, to ensure that they are clean and waterproof.
- Both external and internal surfaces of the vehicle body and insulated containers must be impervious, easy to clean and the vehicle must be sealed to prevent the entry of pests, exhaust fumes and other possible sources of contamination
